Would you like to learn skills that can help you respond to emergencies in your community? The Community Emergency Response Team, also known as CERT, is designed to train individuals to basic disaster response skills. These skills can include fire safety, light search and rescue operations, team organization and disaster medical operations.
When a disaster occurs, we are often the first responders to our neighbors and our coworkers. Skills learned in CERT training will allow individuals to assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event in which emergency help is not able to arrive quickly. In addition, CERT members are encouraged to take a greater role in their community’s preparedness efforts. This can be a great help to emergency responders, such as paramedics, fire service, and law enforcement.
Etowah County continues to build its CERT program. These indivduals are now prepared to help their neighbors and co-workers should an emergency occur.
