Closures Due to Storm Damage

The following report was shared by the Etowah County Road Department with the Gadsden/Etowah County Emergency Management Agency. The following locations are closed indefinitely:

  • Dee Hicks Road between Thrasher and Hwy 179 is closed due to a bridge/culvert washout.
  • Horton Gap Road between Brow and Sand Valley Road is closed due to an embankment slide.
  • From the 1400 block Scenic Drive to the intersection of Agricola Drive is impassable due to downed trees.

The most significant damage to infrastructure found, thus far, is in the Tabor Road area, Highway 11 in Reece City and Keener, as well as Boaz. Citizens should avoid travel in these areas due to the number of trees and powerlines down. Give responders the space they need to safely operate. Units are working to clear a pathway through each of these areas to verify every resident’s safety, restore infrastructure as quickly as possible, and begin damage assessment. A Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) has been established at Northside Baptist Church located at 1026 Valley Drive.

If you have pictures or reports of damage you would like to submit, please email them to ema@cityofgadsden.com.
